On March 14, the efforts of natural gas companies in business, communities and the environment were formally recognized and celebrated by the Oil and Gas Awards, an event launched in 2012, in Pittsburgh.

ATHENS TWP. — When a driver pulls into a mini mart for gas, there is usually a small building as well as gas pumps. The vehicle gets fueled at the pumps and the driver and passengers often will go into the building for coffee for their own refueling. That building, depending on which company owns it, will have anything from one coffee pot to a whole selection of flavors and types of brews, as well as breakfast and/or dinner menus plus a small selection of groceries.

The natural gas industry has brought many new things to northeastern Pennsylvania in a short amount of time. Businesses have grown, jobs have increased, pads have been built, wells have been drilled; all of which has happened relatively quickly compared to industry not even being significantly present in the area only several years ago. All of the construction by the natural gas industry, however, was built for the long process of production. Production is why the pads were built and the wells were drilled. Production is what it’s all about.
