In early April, it was announced that eCorp International LLC (eCorp) and Southern Tier Energy Partners LLC (STEP), a newly formed coalition headed by Nick Schoonover, announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop up to 135,000 acres of Marcellus Shale and to introduce environmentally compatible oil and gas field development technology in the Southern Tier of New York State. This announcement, according to Schoonover, means good news for New York landowners.

While New York State is not yet drilling for natural gas, many businesses and residents in New York have seen some positives from natural gas exploration in Pennsylvania. That’s why, from 3-7 p.m. on April 11, the inaugural Broome County Natural Gas Career and Education Expo was held at the Broome Community College Ice Center in Binghamton.
